Peace Returns Gradually As Just 30,000 ISIS Fighters Are Left In Iraq And Syria
A recent report by Un states that about 20,000 to 30,000 Islamic State fighters are now remaining in Iraq and Syria despite the jihadist group’s defeat. IS once controlled large portions of territories in Iraq as well as Syria, but last year it was driven out of Mosul and Raqa the twin seats of power of the Sunni extremist group, news agency AFP has recently reported.
Some of the key operatives in the extremist group were being relocated to Afghanistan. The report that was released on Monday by UN sanctions monitors estimated that as many as 3,000 to 4,000 IS jihadists were based in Libya as well.
