SC Asks Jammu & Kashmir Government To Provide Security To Kathua Rape Victim’s Family After Threats

The Supreme Court today asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide security to the family of the 8-year-old girl raped and killed in Kathua in January that has sparked nationwide protests. The father of the little girl had requested the Supreme Court to transfer the trial to Chandigarh, citing a “backlash” and lack of security for his family. The court also asked the state government to provide security to the lawyers of the family.

The father of the eight-year-old Kathua victim who was allegedly drugged, tortured, and gang-raped in a village temple for a week in January this year, had approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case outside Jammu and Kashmir.

The victim’s father has approached the Supreme Court seeking safety and security. The court will heared the matter at 2 pm, today.
