US soldier dies in Taliban-claimed attack

A U.S. soldier died in combat on Monday in Afghanistan, the U.S. military said in a statement.

The U.S. military announced the service member’s death without providing details. The name of the service member will be withheld for 24 hours after the next of kin is notified, the military said.

The Taliban claimed it was behind a roadside bombing in northern Kunduz province that killed the U.S. soldier, according to The Associated Press.
