Woman Charged In MAGA Hat Dispute Facing Deportation
FALMOUTH, MA – Federal immigration authorities on Tuesday detained a woman charged in an altercation over a “Make America Great Again” hat. Rosiane Santos, 41, is accused of accosting a man at a Mexican restaurant in Falmouth earlier this month.
Police said the man recorded Santos as she walked behind him and hit the hat off his head. Santos, who appeared to be intoxicated, said the man should not be allowed to eat at a Mexican restaurant, according to police.
As officers escorted her out, she hit the man over the head again, police said. A bartender who works at the restaurant told reporters the assault was unprovoked.

Santos pleaded not guilty last week to charges of disorderly conduct and assault and battery and was released on her own recognizance. In a statement Tuesday, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement confirmed they detained Santos, who they believe to be a Brazilian national in the country illegally.

She has since been released and will appear before an immigration judge at a later date.
“Earlier today, deportation officers with ICE’s Fugitive Operations Team arrested Rosiane Santos, an unlawfully present citizen of Brazil, today near Falmouth, Massachusetts,” an ICE spokesperson wrote in an email to Patch. “Santos is currently facing local charges for assault and other offenses. She has since been released from ICE custody after being entered into removal proceedings in the federal immigration courts and provided a Notice to Appear at a future date before an immigration judge.”
