PWTorch has learned that Bobby Fish has re-signed with Ring of Honor. Fish had temporarily agreed to dates with the company in 2017 after his last contract expired. The length of Fish’s new contract has not been confirmed yet.
Fish entertained offers from WWE, NJPW, and TNA, all of whom expressed interest in signing him, but ultimately Fish decided to stay with ROH.
-In other contract news, The Briscoe Brothers signed an 18 month contract at the beginning of 2016 and their deals are set to expire at the end of June.
Also, Christopher Daniels is currently under a long-term contract with the company, so he will be part of ROH for the foreseeable future.
Current ROH World Champion Kyle O’Reilly isn’t expected to make a decision on his future imminently due to personal issues. PWTorch can confirm that O’Reilly does not have an offer from NJPW at this time on the table, but he does have an offer from ROH. WWE has also expressed interest in signing O’Reilly.
Radican’s Analysis: The signing of Bobby Fish is a big win for Ring of Honor. According to multiple sources, Fish was not happy about the way he was handled creatively, but obviously both sides were able to mend fences and come to terms on a new deal. Reading between the lines, ROH likely stepped up and made a strong offer to retain Fish, who turned away offers from WWE, NJPW, and TNA.
ROH still has some work to do when it comes to retaining their talent. It will likely take some time for the O’Reilly situation to sort out that at this time remains personal and private for O’Reilly. O’Reilly was also said to have been frustrated with the direction of the company during 2016.
According to multiple sources, ROH has big plans for Daniels’s, so he’s definitely someone ROH can build around for the foreseeable future. According to one source I spoke to, it’s a case of ROH being a little too late pushing Daniels hard when he had gained a lot of momentum last fall leading into his defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks at “All Star Extravaganza VIII” in September.
As for the Briscoes, the early indication is it’s not a sure thing they will stay when their deals are up in June. WWE has expressed interest in the past and it appeared they were WWE bound, but WWE pulled their offer after Jay went on a homophobic rant on Twitter. It will be interesting to see if Jay staying quiet on social media and not being controversial for several years changed WWEs mind.
