Vikings Win Two Out of Three at the South Dakota Showcase
SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team opened up its dual season going 2-1 at the South Dakota Showcase in Spearfish, S.D. on Sunday.
The Vikings defeated Northern State (31-15) and Dakota Wesleyan (51-6) and fell to South Dakota State (49-0).
Augustana opened its dual season and the South Dakota Showcase with a convincing 31-15 win over Northern State. The Vikings finished the dual with five bonus-point victories.
Ethan Cota (125) got the Vikings started with an 8-3 decision and his first career dual victory as a Viking. Augustana went on to blow the match open with major decisions by Colin Ayers (141) and Bailey Neises (157) and a pin by Oscar Ramirez Jr. (149).

After Northern State picked up two wins at 165 and 174, the Vikings went on to take the final three matches. Aero Amo (184) earned a tech fall win in his first action of the season, Clayton Wahlstrom (197) picked up a 6-2 decision and Lane Lettau (285) capped off the dual with a pin in 31 seconds.
The Vikings took care of business in their second dual of the South Dakota Showcase, taking down the Tigers, 51-6. Augustana notched four pins during the dual.
Ethan Cota (125), Bruce Lemon Jr. (157), Hunter Haman (174) and Aero Amo (184) each picked up pins against Dakota Wesleyan. Ben Kelvington (165) picked up his first career dual victory with a tech fall and Clayton Wahlstrom (197) earned a major decision.
The No. 17 ranked Jackrabbits took care of the Vikings in the final dual of the South Dakota Showcase, shutting Augustana out, 49-0. Colin Ayers at 141 pounds was the only Viking to fall without giving up bonus points.

Next up the Vikings will host the Augustana Duals on Saturday, Dec. 9 with duals beginning at 10 a.m.
