WWE Superstars results: Becky Lynch & Sami Zayn make their Superstars debut

The Big Takeaway: Debuts and wins for both Becky Lynch and Sami Zayn, with a lot of talk about next week’s draft.

Becky Lynch defeated Summer Rae (4:10)

Natalya is on commentary as we kick things off with Becky Lynch making her debut on Superstars. Natalya is here to build up her match with Lynch at Battleground. Lynch tries an early roll-up but Rae kicks out at two. She tries a backslide, an O’Connor roll, and Rae throws a fit, using the ropes for safety.

Lynch uses a headlock takedown and hip tosses Rae to the outside. Lynch comes off the apron with a clothesline, Nattie stands up, and they have a face off.

Rae takes advantage of the distraction and throws Lynch face first off the apron. Rae takes the advantage now as “Lets go Becky!” chants start up. Rae clotheslines her to the mat and hits a leg drop for a two-count. Natalya calls Rae an “Afghan Hound” while Lynch gets the heat with clotheslines and a really messy dropkick.

Lynch uses a flying forearm to the corner and a fallaway slam but can only get two. She finally gets the Dis-Arm-Her on in the middle of the ring for the win. Lynch and Natalya face off at the end of the match.

Sami Zayn defeated Curtis Axel (w/ Bo Dallas & Heath Slater) (8:22)

This was also Sami Zayn’s debut on this show, a fact that will never be music to any superstar’s ears.

“Ole!” chants start up as they square off, with Zayn going straight after some mat wrestling. They exchange chain moves with both getting the better of the other. After Axel manages to get a shoulder tackle, they go for a Bo Train, while Zayn just looks on completely bored.

Arm drags send Axel packing and Zayn threatens to do a suicide dive, but tricks them and springs off the ropes back into the ring as we head to a break.

Zayn is in control as we return, he punches the hell out of Axel on the top rope and then scoop slams him in the middle of the ring. After dropping an elbow, Dallas and Slater distract the ref and Dallas punches Zayn in the face. Axel takes over now with a sweet dropkick and he applies a chinlock.

Otunga keeps pushing the draft on commentary, they literally talk about nothing else during this match. He also keeps saying that the Social Outcasts would be better off apart. Zayn is beat down more and more, but eventually creates some space with a hurricanrana and some huge clotheslines.

He hits the tornado DDT and sets up for the Helluva Kick, but Slater and Dallas interfere. Zayn sees off the pair with kicks to send them flying off the apron. And now he is able to set up and hit the Helluva Kick for the win. What a pleasure to have Sami Zayn on this show. I’m guessing this won’t be a frequent occurrence.
