Backstage News on Original Plans for Controversial Hell in a Cell Finish
Last weekend’s WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view wrapped up with one of the most controversial finishes in modern wrestling history – but as it turns out, it wasn’t even the finish originally planned for the show.
After a bizarre Hell in a Cell match that saw Universal Champion Seth Rollins use various weapons to repeatedly bludgeon Bray Wyatt’s demonic alter ego, The Fiend, not to mention ELEVEN Curb Stomps for good measure, the action was cut short via referee stoppage when the champ used a sledgehammer.
Fans were not happy, to put it mildly.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original idea was for The Fiend to end up taking a “gimmicked bump” off the top of the Hell in a Cell structure. The match would reportedly end in a stoppage at that point, before The Fiend got back up and put Rollins in the Mandible Claw, which obviously was how the pay-per-view actually ended.
